AIAGR Seminar: New Energy Code & Building Code Updates

Get up to speed on Michigan’s Energy Code update taking effect April 22, 2025, as the state transitions from the 2015 to the 2021 MEC (which references IECC 2021 and ASHRAE 90.1-2019). This seminar will cover the key changes impacting new construction, additions, and renovations—including new commissioning requirements, energy monitoring and controls, and implications for HVAC and electrical systems. Learn how these changes could affect your next project’s design, budget, and approval timeline.

After attending this program participants will:

  • Understand the scope and timeline of Michigan’s transition to the 2021 Energy Code, including key compliance deadlines and affected project types.
  • Identify the major code changes related to building envelope, HVAC systems, electrical upgrades, and commissioning requirements.
  • Interpret the updated commissioning requirements for projects of varying sizes, including verification and testing, fundamental commissioning, and new envelope commissioning standards.
  • Evaluate the potential cost and energy impacts of the new code, including anticipated operational savings and upfront construction cost considerations.
