AIAGR Lunch + Learn: DeCODEd — Interpreting, Complying With, and Planning for the Building Enclosure-Related Requirements of Michigan’s New Energy Code
Elise Love, P.E., RRC from Raths, Raths, & Johnson, Inc. will present during this in-person Lunch & Learn from 12:00pm to 1:00pm.
Topic: DeCODEd: Interpreting, Complying With, and Planning for the Building Enclosure-Related Requirements of Michigan’s New Energy Code
Course Description:
Michigan’s newly adopted energy code introduces important changes that will impact the design, construction, and operation of facilities. This presentation will outline how these updates affect current buildings and planned projects. Attendees will gain insight into the latest requirements for enclosure design, construction, and performance; energy efficiency; and system commissioning.
The speaker will offer compliance options and practical strategies for aligning projects in early design, construction, or planning phases to meet the new energy code requirements. For existing facilities, the presentation will discuss criteria that trigger compliance with new code requirements—such as the scope of renovations, additions, or system replacements—and how to assess when upgrades will fall under the new requirements.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand key building enclosure-related changes in Michigan’s new energy code and how they impact the design, construction, and operation of facilities.
- Identify triggers for compliance with new energy code requirements in existing facilities, including how to determine when renovations or system upgrades require adherence to the new requirements.
- Describe compliance options and apply strategies to position planned and in-progress projects for compliance, including design, construction, and commissioning considerations.
- Recognize the importance of air barrier continuity, the potential impacts of shortcomings in design and installation, and how the new energy code requirements can aide in preventing these shortcomings.
