UNDERNEATH IT ALL: THE GRAVITY OF EMBODIED CARBON
As we work to reach the carbon emission goals set forth by the Paris Accord, building professionals typically turn to energy efficiency and renewable energy to reduce the amount of fossil fuels used in building operation.
Though this is important, there are other aspects to consider that will lead to successfully mitigating climate change. We need to examine embodied carbon, which is the greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) that are emitted from materials used when constructing or renovating our buildings. This makes up 11% of total GHGs worldwide.
In this Lunch & Learn, we will discuss the impact and potential solutions to lowering embodied carbon in typical building practices, presented by Matthew VanSweden of Catalyst Partners and Vince Novak of TSK Architects.
