The Master of Architecture (MArch) degree program at Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University (KCAD) is now accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), having been granted Initial Accreditation at the January 2019 NAAB Board meeting. Accreditation is effective January 1, 2018, and program graduates—beginning with the inaugural cohort, which graduated in 2016—now fully meet the education requirements for licensure in architecture. This action culminates a process of more than five years and follows a successful November 2018 Initial Accreditation Visit by the NAAB Team. KCAD completed the accreditation process on the most rapid schedule allowed by the NAAB.

Embedded within a college of art and design, the KCAD MArch emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach and community engagement in its mission of creating future leaders in architecture. The program engages students, faculty, and professionals in the pursuit of architecture deeply rooted in a sense of place and community. The NAAB Visiting Team particularly complimented the program on its approach to cultural diversity and social equity, as well as its students’ understanding of the business and practices of architecture. The Team also found noteworthy the consistent theme of environmental responsibility across the curriculum and students’ work, as well as its methods of learning outcome assessment.

KCAD offers two tracks to its MArch degree: a two-year sequence for those students who have a pre-professional Bachelor of Science degree in architecture, and a three-year sequence for those students who hold an accredited bachelor’s degree in any major. Enrollment in the KCAD MArch has grown steadily, and its students come to architecture from diverse backgrounds and stages in their lives and careers. The KCAD MArch program is one of five accredited Master of Architecture programs in Michigan.

Congratulations Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University and all those who have been a part of building the KCAD MArch Program!
