The AIA Grand Rapids golf outing is a unique event organized by our chapter in that it provides an opportunity to support future architects. Unlike other programs, proceeds from the golf outing go directly to funding scholarships for students enrolled in one of Michigan’s schools of architecture, and the success of the scholarships each year depends on the success of the outing. It is a goal of AIAGR to expand our support for the education and development of students and young professionals choosing the profession of architecture. Along with bolstering a number of our programs, the board is starting a committee to conceive of what the next evolution of the golf outing can be with the goal of growing the event and therefore the scholarship commitment that can be offered to students. The following is a description of the committee’s goals leading up to the golf outing scheduled for June 13th at Thornapple Pointe:
- Meet regularly (once a month) to plan and coordinate the event
- Plan the event experience, including attractions, games, and contests at course holes
- Select and purchase prizes for the outing and raffle
- Solicit sponsorship opportunities to support the event
- Report back to the board on progress and items requiring a vote
Your AIAGR board asks that you get involved with the golf outing committee to make the event even better for the purpose of supporting students of architecture. It is also a great way to meet other AIA members in our community and increase the positive impact that AIA Grand Rapids has on our profession and the public.
