Embodied Carbon - A Path Toward Carbon Neutral Buildings
When tasked with reducing carbon emissions associated with the built environment, architects and engineers typically turn to energy efficiency and renewable energy strategies.
Though these strategies are important, we also need to examine embodied carbon, which are the carbon emissions associated with a material’s extraction, manufacture, transportation, and end-of-life disposal. The embodied carbon of building materials make up 11% of total GHGs worldwide.
This presentation will explore carbon emissions, their impact, how to evaluate options, and potential solutions to minimizing embodied carbon emissions presented by Matthew VanSweden of Catalyst Partners and Vince Novak of TSK Architects.
